Shared Governance
Nursing at Methodist Health
The purpose of developing a shared governance structure at Methodist was to advance the profession of nursing by shared decision making based on principles of partnership, equity, accountability, and ownership at the point of care.
Shared Governance Council
Acts as a liaison between councils. Assists in conflict resolution between councils. Creates and revises bylaws annually.
Unit/Department Council
Communicates minutes to staff. Participates in staff scheduling. Conflict resolution/problem-solving. Engages in evidence-based practice. Monitors unit specific practice/safety issues (policies, quality improvement, and patient safety). Monitors unit education (in-services, mandatory training, and continuing education).
Quality Council
Forum for data analysis, trending and oversight of performance improvement plan across the nursing department ensuring positive outcomes.
Professional Development and Recognition Council
Forum for clinical nurses to plan, develop, and implement educational programs to meet the clinical and professional goals of nurses within the organization. Develops, implements, and evaluates incentives and rewards for the entire nursing body.
Research and Evidence based Practice Council
Forum for clinical nurses to review research and evidence based nursing practice.
Practice Council
Forum for clinical nurses to participate and collaborate in decisions involving nursing practice utilizing evidence based practice.
