The Methodist Health residency program is managed by a faculty consisting of experienced medical professionals. Their guidance and expertise have helped us train young doctors into highly qualified physicians. Learn more about our faculty below.

Charles Futrell, DO
Director of Medical Education

Dr. Futrell has been a family practice physician with Methodist Health since 2008. He is a graduate of Des Moines University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health and completed his family medicine residency here at Methodist Health in 2008.

Dr. Futrell is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine.

Joshua Kitchens, MD
Administrative Program Director

Dr. Kitchens has been a family practice physician with Methodist Health since 2012. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville and completed his family medicine residency at Trover Health System in 2012. Dr. Kitchens has served as faculty for the program since 2012.

Dr. Kitchens is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Brandon Chappell, DO

Dr. Chappell is an emergency medicine physician at Methodist Health, joining in August 2017. He is a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his family medicine residency here at Methodist Health in 2016.

Dr. Chappell went on to complete a one year emergency medicine fellowship at Jackson-Madison County Hospital in 2017.

John Lee, DO

Dr. Lee has been a family practice physician with Methodist Health since 2016. He is a graduate of the University of Pikeville – KYCOM and completed his family medicine residency here at Methodist Health in 2016.

Dr. Lee is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine.

Brian Maddox, DO

Dr. Maddox is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine.

Cole Phelps, DO

Dr. Phelps is an emergency medicine physician at Methodist Health Union County, joining in July 2017. He is a graduate of the University of Pikeville – KYCOM and completed his family medicine residency here at Methodist Health in 2017.

Dr. Phelps is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine.
