Methodist Cancer Care Center opening announced; Open House and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony set for June 15

Members of the community are invited to attend an Open House and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the Methodist Cancer Care Center to be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15 on the second floor of Methodist Health’s Elm Street Building located 1305 North Elm Street in Henderson.

A total of 5,800 square feet on the second floor, formerly occupied by Pediatrics, has been renovated to include both Hematology and Oncology and Infusion Services allowing all services to operate from a single location, enhancing the continuity of cancer care for patients.

Arshad Husain, M.D., medical director of Hematology and Oncology at Methodist Health, and Amber Catlin, APRN, will oversee the care and treatment of residents of Henderson and surrounding counties with a cancer diagnosis, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of both benign and malignant hematology issues. The Methodist Hematology and Oncology practice was formerly located at 110 North Water Street in Henderson.

The opening of the new Center comes after Methodist Health became affiliated with the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center in September 2014. Dr. Husain, who also serves as medical director of hematology and oncology at Methodist Health, noted, “The affiliation has enabled us to offer access to the latest practices in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers and blood disorders to our patients, including clinical trials and advanced technology, allowing patients to stay close to home for most treatments.”

Infusion Services, staffed by registered nurses certified to administer chemotherapy and biotherapy, have moved from the second floor of Methodist Health’s North Tower to the new space. Infusion therapy is generally offered Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., in one of 11 bays with recliners and flat-screen televisions. Two private rooms for patients requiring lengthy sessions or more privacy are also available.

Paul Moore, M.D., Methodist Family Practice and Chair of the Methodist Cancer Committee, commented, “Methodist is dedicated to providing outstanding cancer care in a community setting. Our new combined office and infusion services will enable ease of care for our patients. We are proud to be an affiliate of the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

In addition to Drs. Moore and Husain, remarks at the Open House will be made by _______________, M.D., U.K. Markey Cancer Center; Margaret Ridley, Vice President of Business Support, Kyndle (Kentucky Network for Development, Leadership and Engagement); Steve Austin, Mayor, City of Henderson; and Brad Schneider, Henderson County Judge Executive.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, refreshments will be served.
