Logan VanSickle named Spirit of Excellence - July 2017, Methodist Health

Logan VanSickle, RN, Emergency Department, began his career at Methodist Health on May 28, 2013, fresh out of college as a Registered Nurse Applicant (RNA) working on the Medical Unit. He received his RN license the following month. VanSickle transferred to the Emergency Department on November 23, 2014, and has been there ever since.

A native of Uniontown, KY, VanSickle earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Kentucky. He is currently working on a Master of Science degree in Nursing with a Nurse Practitioner specialty through

Chamberlain College of Nursing, Chicago, IL. He anticipates completion of the degree in May 2019.

VanSickle says the favorite part of his job as an emergency nurse is getting to put his skills to work in caring for so many different types of patients, from traumatic injuries to heart attacks or illnesses. “It helps me to broaden my knowledge,” he said. “While I am working on my Master’s degree to become a nurse practitioner, I like being able to see patients when they first come in, to assess their condition and think about what the plan of care should be. It helps me advance my critical thinking.”

“Both on the Medical Unit and in ED, I have enjoyed my coworkers,” he continued, “They are one of the big reasons I enjoy my job. We all get along and work together to do best we can for our patients.”

Comments by his nominator:
“Logan is a key element to our department. He sacrifices countless hours and days for this department. He always lends a helping hand and never hesitates to help others. Last spring I was very ill and to help me not get an occurrence, he offered to work the last four hours of my shift, which had him working 16 hours that day. Not many would have helped in this manner. Methodist Health is lucky to have a person of such character as Logan.”
