Employee Profile – Joshua Kitchens, MD

When Joshua Kitchens, MD, joined Methodist Family Medicine as a family practice physician in 2012, he had just completed his residency at Trover Health System in Madisonville, KY. Dr. Kitchens earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, KY, in 2009.

“It was coming home,” he said. “I was born at Methodist Health and this is my hometown. It is also my wife Shannon’s hometown, and we wanted to raise our family here.” The Kitchens have a nine-year-old son, Deacon.

“I am appreciative of the trust that people have put in me,” he said. “I enjoy seeing each patient’s story evolve over the years, being able to share in their lives and hopefully make a positive impact through the medical advice I give. To have that continuity is important.”

“I also like the camaraderie our staff has; we work well together.”

Dr. Kitchens’ role as teacher is important to him, too. “I participate in teaching the medical students who are here as part of the family practice residency program, as well as nurse practitioner students. That interaction helps me to stay sharp. Several of the physicians I’ve taught have stayed or come back to practice here. It’s nice to see them become part of the team.”
