Hospitalist Care

Personalized Healthcare in Henderson County

When staying in a Hospital, you may find yourself consulting with and being treated by various physicians and nurses. This can make it difficult to coordinate your care and know who to talk to about questions and concerns, which is why Methodist Health has its own Hospitalist Care Team.

A Hospitalist acts as your constant point of contact during your stay in the Hospital. They keep track of who has treated you and can easily obtain notes and feedback from all the physicians that took care of you while in the Hospital. It is unlikely your primary care physician will have time to meet with you every day, which is why the Hospitalist takes care of your immediate needs like ordering tests, consulting medical specialists and hearing out your questions and concerns.

Constant On-Call Care

Hospitalists are available for you 24/7 during your stay at Methodist Health. If at any time you want to talk to someone about our care you can call for a nurse and have them contact your Hospitalist. Be aware that you may not interact with the same Hospitalist during your stay. Our team usually rotates every seven days starting on Tuesdays. Though you may not be working with the same person the entire time, Hospitalists are very diligent about keeping records of your care and communicating important information to the person taking over.

Qualifications

Hospitalists must undergo extensive medical training before starting work. These are professionally trained doctors and must be knowledgeable in a wide array of medical specialties in order to facilitate treatment for all patients.

A Hospitalist’s duties include:

  • Ordering medical tests and analyzing the results
  • Writing prescriptions
  • Determining which Hospital department can best facilitate a patient’s care
  • Monitoring patients for damage from heart attacks, stroke and other conditions
  • Consulting with medical specialists to determine the next phase of treatment

Additionally, Hospitalists are intimately familiar with the inner workings of all Hospital departments. Their expertise can ensure patients get the care they need, when they need it. With a Hospitalist keeping track of your care, you can rest easy knowing you have an advocate to hear you out and make sure you care meets all your expectations and you are not forced into any treatment you do not want.
