If you are feeling nervous about your operation, our staff is happy to answer your questions and address concerns. Knowing more about what to expect often helps people feel more confident and at ease as they prepare for their operation.
Preparing for Surgery
You may be wondering what you can do to prepare for an upcoming surgery. Specific preparations will depend on the specific procedure you are undergoing. Our team will go over these details with you and provide you with a written list of instructions if requested. If anesthesia will be used in your procedure, then you will need someone to drive you home. Patients who receive anesthesia should not operate heavy machinery for at least 24 hours.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing the day of your operation – something that won’t put too much pressure on the surgical area. Leave valuables at home as we cannot guarantee their safety while you are in the operating room. However, make sure you bring your ID and insurance card.
Many operations require patients to fast for up to 12 hours before their operation; this includes abstaining from chewing gum, mints, and water. Be sure to ask if fasting is required before your operation.
